The art content will focus on the creation of a 3 dimensional piece, using paper-mache over a balloon and then mapping something that is precious or important
and that has a story to tell, using tempera paints, writing and drawing be used for the project.
Currently, Ulla's class is working on geography and learning how to map things.
Overview of Project
This project is about creating an art piece dimensionally, and incorporating a creative geographical,
mapping process into the project. The piece will be made of paper-mache.
They will use painting, writing and drawing for this project as well. The students will map what is important to them, family their pets, etc.
Instead of mapping land they will be more creative with the subject to what they are to map.
This project will challenge the students a great deal because they have never worked three dimensionally.
Essential Question(s)
What does three dimensions mean?
What kinds of things can be mapped out? (Not just land but it could be their house, bedroom, or a beach etc.)
The big idea is for students to visually understand three dimensions, and to use mapping skills with creative art skills to make a project that connects, organizes and has meaning.
Prior Knowledge
Know about the terms 2D and 3D what that means/ what is the differences between the two.
Experiencing mapping 2 Dimensionally/ and learning 3 dimensionally.
Timeline
I will bring in a visual example of the project that I made myself for the students to get more of understanding of the project.
Bring in a book called My Map Book by Sara Fanelli
Met with Ulla about the project and decided on the April dates:
Tuesday 28, 2009 at 9:30-10:30 (May have to come in another day to finish project.)
Installation date: Monday 4th
Already met with Lynda about project (April 23, 2009).
Assessment
I will move around the classroom checking every student's progress.
I will listen to how the students are helping their peers and what they are saying.
That the students are working diligently on the projects successfully, by adding text, that it is readable enough and that the image makes good connections to the text as well.

Procedures
At 9:30-Class begins
Gather together as a group/ show visual of the project to the class, what we are going to work on
Show book relating to mapping to give students ideas as to what they could map out
Three things I expect them to do with their map:
To paint their object that fits their subject matter
Fill the whole object with paint leaving no spots of newspaper showing
Lastly, to write ob their project about what the map is and where does the lines connect, or guide us as a treasure map would?
Have the students start working on decorating the 3D object
I will come around to all the students individually to help anyway I can
10:25-start cleaning up/ store projects to dry
Go in Thursday the 30th of April to finish up with the writing part of the mapping project
Teacher Reflection
These are young children; I will have to work to get their full attention and help them remember not to work on their projects when I am explaining something to them
Not getting the project done within the time we have
How do you demonstrate a way for all students to understand the project?
How do your keep the students focused and interested in the subject?
How messy will the project be?
Feedback Activities
I will give the classroom teacher an assessment/ evaluation form that we use at the College of Visual Arts in a stamped addressed envelope.
Lynda and I will meet after the sessions to discuss the work.
