Understand how the following components of visual arts are used to convey meaning: color, vocabulary, styles, such as abstract or impressionist. Understand the connection between a visual art work, its purpose, and its cultural and historical contexts; communicate a personal reaction to works in visual art using the components of visual art; and use criteria to evaluate works of visual art.
Overview of Project
Learning more about color through, emotion, and color mixing. Also, creating an understanding of how to identify color. Then learning about each other, through expression/representation through color.
Essential Question(s)
Color, how it works, how its used, how it can create feeling and mood. What does color do to convey an emotion? How can you use a color to express how you are feeling?
Prior Knowledge
What colors are, how they are used, who has used them, how they have been used
Timeline
Day one: PowerPoint of color and vocab. Along with discussion of classic art works in order to understand how color is used. Also, a quick survey of the student, asking Name, favorite primary color, how it makes them feel, and one thing they love is.
Day two: Drawing a name (survey) at random, that person then becomes their partner. They then have to create a composition on the paper that expresses the questions asked on the survey. They then with outline that persons hands (with the hopes of expressing what they have read) then drawing their hands over lapping the others.
Then they will color in the hands with paint, making themselves the complimentary color of their partner, and mixing where their hands cross over each other's.
Day three: continue painting, then label colors in Native and English language.
Day four: discuss with partner to the class the pieces they created about each other and what how they completed the assignment.
Examples of Student or Artist Work
Kitty (the art teacher and I will create a exemplar) and I will bring in a few pieces of artwork of my own to show how one can use hands to convey an expression. I used a lot of hands.
Assessment
I hope that at the end of the assignment they will be able to grasp and understand color. I hope the evidence is shown in their work, I think slowing down and taking their time will produce quality work, I think also having to present their work at the end and having a strict deadline might also create a more focused completion of art.
