Classroom, School: Perpich Center
Cooperating Teacher: Kevan Nitzberg
Grade Level: 9-12
Presenter's Name: Crystal Tomczak
Subject and Curricular Link: We will be making an accordion style book, and then drawing on the pages of the book keeping sequence in mind. No Curricular Link.

Overview of Project

Spend the first hour going over what we will be doing and making the book. The second hour will be for them to work on the content of the book.

Essential Question(s)

How can I give these students something new and exciting to think about? How is a book structure different than a 3D plane? How can an artist engage in narrative using a book structure?

Prior Knowledge

They don't really need any prior knowledge for this project, just need to be able to use their hands, follow instructions and be willing to learn.

Timeline

Friday April 9th spend about 1.5 hours finding examples, and about 2.5 hours getting all supplies together and ready. Arrive at Perpich by 9:45am -Meet Kevan in the cafeteria to find out where I need to go. Begin by having students collect materials from me at At 10:02am introduce the project by telling them what we will be doing, and hand out packet of examples. This will be a packet of photos. I do not know if I will have access to a computer or projector so the packet will be in place of a power point. 10:07am Begin constructing the book. I will be walking them through it step by step, making the book along with them and walking around offering my help 10:57am Go through packet of examples to give them an idea of the different approaches they can take with this 11:00am - 11:50 let them draw on the pages of their books, walking around offering my help and opinions and asking them how they feel about the project 11:50am-12pm Have them show each other what they have done and talk about it. End project at 12pm Clean up 12-12:05pm

Examples of Student or Artist Work

I will be putting together a packet full of different examples for each student to have with images I got off the internet of accordion books and different ideas for content. I will also include a list of a few ideas for themes of the content of their book.

Assessment

As an assessment I will ask the students how they felt about the project and what would make it better once it is complete, and just take note of their responses

Teacher Reflection

Im afraid the students that chose to come to my workshop, will not like what we are making or wont take it serious and not take any time on content of the book

Learning Activities

The students will be learning how to make a book and also learning different ways to think about sequencing
