Essential Question(s)
The students will draw their chosen letter from a two inch by two inch letter to a four inch by four inch letter. One of the drawings will be in a positive form and the other will be in a negative from. From this the students will choose their favorite, cut it out and paste it on to a larger piece of paper. I am thinking 9 x 12.
Prior Knowledge
They will have to know what their letter is and how to hold a pencil, draw and a little bit about proportion and graphing.
Timeline
First I will introduce the history behind typeface and give some examples of how it is designed. After I will give s brief intro about drawing and explanation of materials. After this I will sho an example of what they will be doing and draw some demos on the overhead. Then I will have a short question answer. A large portion of time is allotted for drawing. I will be hovering, answering questions and giving encouragement. Afterwards I will be using VTS to lead a class discussion.
Examples of Student or Artist Work
I will be bringing in type books and showing specific examples of how letters are made. I will also include an example of what they will be creating.
Assessment
After the lesson I will use VTS to orchestrate a discussion about their process and finished product.

Teacher Reflection
Students might become overwhelmed or discouraged. They might have a hard time understanding positive and negative space. I am worried that some will finish supper early.
